I am an obstinate and results-oriented entrepreneur that likes to challenge the status quo.
Two years ago, my best friends and I founded MarsBased, a development consultancy that focused on good code, specialisation, best practices and long-term relationships. That is, quality, not price.
We also chose to specialise in Ruby on Rails and AngularJS development, doing web-only projects while the vast majority of the companies in Spain do offer all sorts of services (web, mobile, blogs, marketing campaigns, SEO, Java, Wordpress, etc.)
We faced two fundamental problems: Firstly, Spain is a country whose people opt, in 99% of the cases, for the cheapest option. Secondly, we had to compete against jack-of-all-trades companies that sell one-size-fits-all solutions based mostly on Wordpress, Drupal and pre-packaged CMS solutions that never adapt 100% to what the client requires.
Two years in, we are 10 people strong with clients in three different continents. Alive and kicking.
Similarly, two years ago I brought Startup Grind to Barcelona, a global community of entrepreneurs hosting monthly events in 200 cities in over 80 different countries. "No one has time for more events", "no one will pay for an event about startups", "monthly events do not work", "Catalans are cheap people" and similar sentences I had to confront daily.
Two years in, we have hosted at least one paid event every month for 24 consecutive months with an average attendance of almost 100 people.
